We celebrate Teacher's Day in India in the great memory of our former president Dr. Radhakrishnan. His birthday has been celebrated as the teacher’s day in India on 5th September every year.

As for the rest of the world, the day differs. For instance, UNESCO declared the 5th of October as the world’s Teachers Day. Numerous countries have followed that date till now to pay tribute, appreciate, and return the favor to all the amazing teachers out there.

Why is Teacher's Day celebrated on September the 5th in India?

Dr. Abdul Kalam says that the teaching job is the most noble profession in the world. Not only that but also he wanted to be remembered as a good teacher and considered it as the greatest honor.

Did you know of the fascinating fact that “When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the Indian president, his beloved students wanted to honor his birthday? Instead, he suggested the day of his birth on 5th September as the national teacher’s day in India since 1962”.

We gave the honor to him yet he shared the honor with all the noble teachers. Hence teacher’s day in India is celebrated as one of the most important festivals. Every household, school, and college marks the special day of teachers with cultural activities, and speech and dance programs.

How to honor our teachers on Teacher's Day in India?

Teacher's Day in India paves the way to say a simple thanks for all their wonderful efforts and contributions. The teachers should have their day to cheer, cherish, and celebrate.

  • A simple greeting card with a thank you note would be all that's needed to make it more special for our teachers.

  • Provide them with teaching essentials like pens, markers, or to-do list notepads. That would be a good idea to honor the work they do. Our teachers play multiple roles in disciplining, instructing, and practically educating life’s lessons.

  • Our teachers also need some personal time to take off from work. The students can help them share their work and higher students take up the teaching role to share the burden.

  • Last but not least, celebrations should have some fun so get to the stage. Do a dance, a play, or a game activity to kindle the sporty spirit of your teachers.
